Fall Protection
Across the Alderwood M&O North campus, no two roofs were quite the same.

One building was concrete. Another was constructed from structural steel. Two more were wood-framed mirror images of one another. Some roofs supported fans or new HVAC equipment. Another included skylights that maintenance personnel would need to reach safely.
But none of them had a reliable and safe fall protection system.
Challenge:
Working as a subcontractor to Valdez Construction, Axiom D7 was tasked with designing and installing fall protection systems across several existing buildings undergoing renovation.
Each roof demanded a different solution.
A small concrete pump house required permanent tie-off points for maintenance personnel working around rooftop equipment. Another building needed custom side-mounted anchors attached directly to the existing structural steel. Two wood-framed buildings were receiving new rooftop HVAC equipment, creating the need for safe, continuous access across large sections of roof.
The challenge was not simply installing anchors—it was designing systems that matched the structure beneath them while coordinating with roofing crews, framers and the general contractor throughout construction.
Solution:
Axiom D7 engineered each system specifically for the building it would protect.
After developing shop drawings and engineering calculations, the team worked directly with the general contractor to coordinate framing, blocking and installation before the roofing work was completed.
Where appropriate, Axiom D7 used horizontal lifeline systems rather than individual anchor points, allowing maintenance personnel to move across the roof while remaining continuously tied off. The result is a cleaner, more efficient system that requires fewer anchors while improving worker safety.
Before the project was complete, every anchor and lifeline connection was pull-tested to verify its performance under load—a level of quality assurance Axiom D7 performs on every Fall Protection installation.
Results:
Today, maintenance personnel can safely access rooftop equipment throughout the campus using systems designed specifically for each building—not generic solutions adapted after the fact.
By combining engineering, roofing expertise and Fall Protection under one contractor, Axiom D7 delivered systems that integrate cleanly with the roof, simplify future maintenance and provide confidence that every connection has been tested before anyone relies on it.
Because when it comes to fall protection, the most important system is the one you never hope to use.
